Heavy overnight rainfall triggered cloudbursts in parts of Dehradun, causing flash floods and widespread damage to property, while schools and Anganwadi centres were ordered shut on Monday as a precaution.

The downpour led to the swelling of the Tamsa River, inundating the premises of the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple, a popular pilgrimage site. Several shops, restaurants and commercial establishments in low-lying areas were also damaged.

Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams carried out rescue operations, saving five people trapped in a swollen river near Sahastradhara. No casualties have been reported so far.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the situation and directed officials to remain on high alert. He said all necessary measures were being taken to ensure the safety of residents in flood-prone areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Dehradun, Haridwar, and Tehri districts, warning of further heavy rainfall, waterlogging, and risk of landslides. Authorities have advised the public to avoid venturing near rivers and vulnerable slopes.

Rescue teams and district officials are monitoring the situation closely as rainfall continues across several parts of Uttarakhand.
